For most Mexicans or people of Mexican descent, September 16th is a time to celebrate. September 16th, Mexico’s Independence Day, marks the day when Mexico first declared its intent to become a free nation. It is also known as the Grito de Dolores, or the Cry of Dolores. Dolores is a small town in Mexico where a band of revolutionaries, led by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a priest, met and started to plan a revolt in the autumn of 1810. Read the rest of this entry »
